Sunderland striker Defoe expected to be fit for Stoke after injury fears

Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe is expected to be fit for his side's next league game against Stoke City according to Sky Sports.

There were concerns of serious ankle damage after the 33-year-old hobbled off the pitch with a knock after scoring in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The former Tottenham star scored the only goal of the game to claim a much-needed three points for his side and could still take part in the visit of the Potters at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Defoe has scored seven times in 12 appearances for the Black Cats this season, including four in 11 in the Premier League.
