Former Black Queens coach, Bashiru Hayford, says teams will need up to six weeks or more to get prepared should the Ghana Premier league (GPL) restart amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season has been suspended in March this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The current season is currently in limbo as the Ghana FA is engaging its stakeholders on the future of the season as well as directives from the government.

According to Bashiru Hayford who agreed with coaches of some Premier League clubs on the time needed for teams to prepare should the league restart after July 31 he said, “What the coaches said is purely technical. With COVID-19, now I am afraid of the fitness and the conditioning of the players. Now they need proper training with supervision from the coaches. So I agree with them”, he told Happy FM.

“If the Ghana Football Association will continue with the current season then they will need a grace period to allow the players prepare and train if not injuries will set in when they start”, he added.
