This Atletico Madrid team can be trusted in Salzburg

Atletico Madrid went toe to toe with the European champions for 90 minutes on Tuesday night. Although they didn't get the result they needed to qualify, there were plenty of positives to take from their draw with Bayern Munich.

Diego Simeone's side now need to avoid defeat in Austria against RB Salzburg on Matchday 6 to progress but, going by this performance against Bayern, that shouldn't be too troublesome.

Not only have his displays improved at the start of this season, but Kieran Tripper is fast becoming a key part of this Atletico side. The Englishman started the move which led to Joao Felix' goal and linked up well with Marcos Llorente down the right.

Apart from Joao Felix, if there's one play who's completely different to what they were last season, it's Yannick Carrasco. It was an extremely dynamic performance from the Belgian, who created chances and threatened to score himself when on the ball.

Jose Gimenez is injured again, just as he was forging a solid partnership with Stefan Savic in the centre of defence. Felipe came on to replace the Uruguayan, giving away the penalty that Thomas Muller converted.

Joao Felix finally scored against one of Europe's heavyweights with a well taken goal to open the scoring at the Wanda Metropolitano. His conversion of Llorente's cross was the highlight of yet another dazzling display from the youngster.

In every sporting institution or corporate business, there is someone who makes everything tick. At Atletico, that person is Koke. The captain is now the visible leader of the team, playing at the kind of level to warrant praise every time he takes to the field.

Qualification was in sight for Atletico going into the final few minutes of the match, but Muller's penalty means they go to Austria in need of at least a point to reach the last 16.
