14:15 Wolverhampton: Si Senor @ 7/1 – 1 point each way

Another Saturday afternoon and it’s yet another race where the very consistent Si Senor looks worthy of support.

The five year old has thrived on the AW since the turn of the year, and having only narrowly failed to get his head in front for the second time in a row, Ed Vaughans’ gelding looks to hold solid claims once again.

His three runs at Lingfield this season show form figures of 1st, 2nd, 2nd (beaten less than a neck on both of the last two occasions) and although this is, in theory at least, a stronger race there doesn’t seem to be too much in it. Anyone who watched this geldings’ last outing would surely have been left scratching their head as to how he didn’t cross the line in front, and it would be hard to find anyone who disagrees with the fact that he was the best horse in the race. A staying on 2nd in a very similar looking class 2 event on his penultimate start looks good form in relation to today’s contest, and – if capable of running up to that level once more – the son of Dansili should make another bold bid.

Top all-weather jockey Adam Kirby re-takes the ride today, which is certainly a positive considering that it was he who steered this horse to success in January. Given the way this horse has been going of late, it’s hard to think that taking a race of this nature isn’t well within his grasp, and at what could be a somewhat generous price of 7/1, Si Senor looks a solid each way bet.

15:30 Ayr: Bobs Lady Tamure @ 4/1 – 2 point win

The 15:30 at Ayr is the next port of call, where it is Maurice Barnes’ entrant who gets the nod.

Bobs Lady Tamure is one who comes into this race with a somewhat patchy record, although if we scratch beneath the surface and consider only the relevant form then the she begins to looks rather appealing in this contest.

This previous C&D winner hasn’t enjoyed the best of times so far this season, although her 2nd last time out at Newcastle – in a better race than this one – was a step back in the right direction. Prior to that she was in the process of running a creditable placed effort when falling at the last over C&D back in January, again in a stronger event.

With two 4th placed finishes, two 2nd’s and C&D win to her name, the 9 year old has clearly shown a liking for this track and also offers up several good efforts on today’s forecast soft ground. An easy win at this course off a mark of 123 last season suggests that further success off her current mark (124) is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility, and in a race such as this, where the majority of the runners are unable to boast figures that can match the selections, you’d have to fancy her to go well.

17:30 Ayr: Randy Pike @ 5/4 – 2 point win

Onto the last selection, and for the second time today we turn our attentions to Ayr, where Nicky Richards’ bumper runner looks to have a big chance of opening his account.

Randy Pike made a very pleasing start to life on the racecourse when finishing 2nd at Kelso on heavy ground, and the manner in which he pulled readily clear of the remainder of the field suggested that he should be up to taking a race of today’s nature before too long.

Nicky Richards is not only a trainer with a decent record in bumpers, he is also in good form right now in that sphere, having saddled two winners from his last four runners. The yards strike rate at Ayr (28%) is also encouraging.

Given the above it would be no surprise at all if Randy Pike was to show clear improvement now, and in a race where he will receive 7lb from the main danger, the six year old can go one better than last time and therefore looks a good bet to lose his maiden tag at the second time of asking.
