Under-pressure Torino coach apologises for poor display

Torino coach Giampiero Ventura has apologised to supporters after his side’s 0-0 draw against Carpi.

Il Toro were wasteful in front of goal and could not capitalize on a Carpi side who sat back, prompting an increasing amount of jeers from those in attendance as the match wore on.

“We apologize to our fans for not giving them something to shout about,” Ventura told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is normal for them to be angry after we failed to win a match that we should have.”

The well-travelled coach then discussed the team’s on-pitch performance.

“We had four or five good chances to score but we were poor in front of goal,” Ventura added.

“Sometimes we play with anxiety which prevents us from being at our best but we all wanted to win this match very badly.”

With just one victory over the Granata’s past seven matches, the 68-year-old is under an increasing amount of pressure and on Sunday supporters were holding up signs calling for his dismissal.

“I did not take offence to the banners,” he said.

“Some fans wish for me to get sacked but others thank me for my work, football is like that.”
