Aduana Stars top marksman Yahaya Mohammed has suggested the 2019/2020 season be cancelled as ban on social gatherings has been extended for another two months.

The ban on social gatherings was extended by the government in an address by president Akufo-Addo to until 31 July 2020 last week as the coronavirus cases continue to surge in Ghana.

The Ghana Premier League and the lower leagues have been put on hold since 15 March 2020.

The prolific attacker believes it will be appropriate for the Ghana FA to terminate the current season and prepare for next season.

"I think the 2019/2020 season is over taking into the consideration the extension of the ban on social gatherings," he told Shaft FM in Obuasi.

"It will be appropriate if the season is terminated for us to start preparing for the next season. Staying at home for more than four months will even have a toll on us if the season is resumed."

Moreover, Mohammed who is second highest scorer and having his side leading the league standings won't be disappointed if the season is truncated.

"I am second highest scorer in the league and also Aduana Stars are leading the table so I wouldn't wish the season is cancelled but the situation we find ourselves in doesn't permit us to do our wishes."

Mohammed has been in scintillating form since the beginning of the season as he has netted 11 goals in 15 games for the Fire Boys.

The 32-year-old emerged the best player of the month of January and was also named in the Black Stars squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications against Sudan which has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Ghana's coronavirus cases have crossed 10,000 with 48 deaths recorded.
