Aduana official wants referee beaters charged

Aduana Stars Operations Officer George Gyawu has charged authorities to start criminal prosecutions against supporters involved in the physical assault of referee Kojo Kyeremanteng.

The Kumasi-based referee was subjected to severe beatings by irate Ebusua Dwarfs fans for disallowing a late equalizer in their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Aduana on Sunday.

And even though the Ghana FA has made its intention clear on clamping down on simmering hooliganism in the local game, the Aduana offiicial believes criminal investigations is the way to go.

He tells GHANAsoccernet.com captured video footage of the gory scene should be used to identify perpetrators and be arraigned before the law courts.

"It is good the Ghana FA has made it clear it wants to punish clubs whose supporters engage in such shameful acts," he said.

"However punishing the clubs in my view is just not enough. I believe those directly responsible for the assault should be made to pay for their deeds.

"It will serve a serious deterrent for any future occurrence otherwise we will be punishing clubs in vein and leaving their real cause unattended for."
