Hanoi: Home United secured a rollercoaster 5-4 away victory over Thang Quang Ninh thanks to four goals from Croatian forward Stipe Plazibat in 2017 AFC Cup Group H on Wednesday.
With the better of the early chances, Home United took the lead after 10 minutes when a stunning Khairul Nizam volley found the back of the net from the corner of the area. Plazibat soon doubled the lead from the penalty spot.
However, the hosts were soon handed a lifeline in the 36th minute when Juma’at Jantan turned substitute Nguyen Sa’s powerful low cross past his own keeper. A Bui Van Hieu header on the stroke of half-time then brought Than Quang Ninh level.
Plazibat, though, swang the tie emphatically back in his side’s direction with two goals in five second-half minutes.
A 78th minute strike from Vu Minh Tuan gave the hosts renewed hope. However, Plazibat struck once again to confirm Home United’s victory in spite of Nghiem Xuan Tu’s stoppage time free-kick consolation.
