Ghana winger Andre Ayew has expressed his gratitude to the fans of the national team for returning to support the Black Stars after some unhappiness over events at the World Cup.

Black Stars fans looked to have fallen out of love with players of the national team in the wake of their disappointing showing at the tournament in Brazil in June.

The players were roundly booed in their match against Uganda in Kumasi in September but since then thousands have turned up to offer their support following public apologies by the players.

Ayew, who is among the most senior of the players in the Black Stars camp, says they are grateful to the fans for their recent support for the team.

“I must say we are very grateful to the supporters. Things are changing now with the supporters and are getting better," Ayew told a press conference in Accra ahead of the Uganda clash on Saturday.

"I really want to thank the supporters for what is going on. Things have really changed and getting better.

“I am proud and happy because it was a difficult moment for all of us.

"So I really want to thank them and call on them to continue praying for us to get victory so that we can get victory in the last game with full support.”

Thousand turned up in Tamale to support the team for the match against Guinea which helped the side to the 3-1 victory last month.
