Bafetimbi Gomis is class and Andre Ayew is amazing: What we’ve learned about Swansea City so far this season
Andre Ayew

The Swans have continued their unbeaten start to the season with two good performances to back up the Chelsea game on the opening day.

A 2-0 win over Newcastle at the Liberty was followed up by this weekend’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland and now we can break temporarily from the Premier League with the Capital One Cup tie against York.

But what five things have we learned from the last two games?

Gomis is the striker we wanted him to be.

Bafe got some unfair criticism when he first arrived at Swansea last season. But he has proved over the last six months just how good he is.

Not only does he have three in three games this season but he gets himself into some excellent positions to get the chances he needs and is also very strong defensively.

He has plenty of goals in him this season and it is brilliant to see.

Jonjo Shelvey has to be in the England squad.

From a player that looked as if he was on his way out of Swansea at the turn of the year he has now become a massively important part of our side and that should also earn him an England recall.

He has created more chances this season than anyone else in the Premier League and surely Roy Hodgson cannot afford to ignore him on this occasion?

Gylfi Sigurdsson needs to find his form.

It may not be the most popular viewpoint at the moment but we are not seeing the form from Gylfi that we have grown to expect.

He is a quality player and the form will come back but for whatever reason at the moment it just isn’t happening for him.

Next week (against Manchester United) would be a great time to change that

Garry Monk gets stronger and stronger.

It is hard sometimes to remember that Monk has been a manager for just 18 months.

He has the most detailed methods that any manager could possibly have and he thinks long and hard about everything that he does.

Of course he will not get everything right but this was one inspired appointment from the Swans and long may the two parties remain hand in hand.

Andre Ayew is a good as we were told he was.

We should be massively proud that we fought off competition from some very good teams to get this man in our team.

He is combining well with Gomis, he likes to get on the end of a Montero cross and he can score goals as well.

He could well turn out to be one of the signings of the summer and an inspired piece of business for the Swans.

It will be interesting to see how we progress from here but we have every right to be confident on all fronts at the moment and these are great times to be a Swans fan.
