Italian giants AC Milan have terminated the contract of Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari with immediate effect, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old had one year left on his contract but was relegated to the background last season.
In April, he was left out of the squad for Saturday's Serie A match away to Palermo at his own request and that sparked rumours of his exit.
This was after he had been left on the bench for four of the five games for which he had been available.

Muntari joined the Rossoneri in January 2012 where he made 70 appearances in the Serie A and scored 11 goals.
He is now available on the transfer market as a free agent and has already been linked with a return to the English Premier League after previously playing for Portsmouth and Sunderland.
The talented left-footed player could be heading to the MLS where clubs like New York Red Bulls are thought to be interested.
