Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko sacked their coach David Duncan on Sunday night after the Porcupine Warriors dropped to the bottom of the league table, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
The Kumasi-based giants fired the mouthy coach after a lengthy management meeting was held to decide on his future following the bad results since the start of the season.
The Porcupines dropped to the 16th position on the league with five points from the possible 18 points.
The result of the match against Aduana and the club's position on the table left the club with no option than to sack Duncan who was handed a massive warchest ahead of the start of the season.
The former Hearts of Oak and AshGold manager purchased all the top-notch players he asked for and as the results did not match the amount spent forced the hand of management.
"Management has asked Coach David Duncan to step aside until further notice and with immediate effect," Kotoko Communications Manager Kwaku Ahenkorah said after the management decision.
"The decision has become necessary after the club’s abysmal performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League where Kotoko lies an unprecedented last position” on the league table with five points.
"Assistant coach Michael Osei takes over as head of the technical team in the interim. Management further apologizes to the teeming fans of the club for the performance displayed so far.
"We will endeavour to turn the tables and send the club where it duly belongs."
Kotoko’s next match is against improved Liberty Professionals who thumped defending champions AshantiGold 5-1 at home on Sunday.
