Carlisle United are holding talks with former Ghana striker Derek Asamoah over a possible new deal.

This was revealed by assistant coach Lee Dykes in an interview with the club’s website.

Asamoah, who was released by United in May, has rejoined the Cumbrians for training and played 90 minutes in Tuesday's reserve game at Oldham.

He proved his mettle and it looks like the club are interested in re-signing him.

"The football club, the manager and Derek are having conversations," Dykes said on United's website.

"We all know what he can do and it was tough for us to let him go in the summer.

"We had to leave ourselves open for what could possibly become available in the transfer window at that point.

"Derek can hurt the best of teams and he's more than good enough for this level, but it has to be right for everybody."

Asamoah scored eight goals in 51 appearances for United last term, after hitting five in 28 the previous campaign.
