Ghana defender Daniel Opare eyes Belgian double

Ghana defender Daniel Opare's dream of winning the double in Belgium this term was given a boost after Standard Liege beat Anderlecht 2-1 in the penultimate fixture in the championship play-offs.

The 21-year-old was stalwart at right back in Saturday's win that kept his side top of the table on goal difference.

Liege must now beat second-placed Racing Genk, which beat Gent 2-3, on the final day on Tuesday to lift the trophy for the first time since 2006.

Both teams currently sit on 50 points.

The Reds have the opportunity of winning a second trophy when they face Westerlo in the Belgian Cup final next Saturday.

Opare, who joined the Liege-based side last summer, has improved tremendously and wants both trophies to cap his efforts.

"I want all Ghanaians to pray for me and wish me well in these two matches. This season has been good for me and my team mates and I think we deserve to win the double," Opare told GHANAsoccernet.com

"We are keeping our concentration because the final game will be difficult but I believe we can win on Tuesday."
