Ghana FA thrilled with Frimpong switch but insists he won't be automatic choice

Published on: 30 November 2012

The Ghana Football Association has welcomed the nationality switch of Emmanuel Frimpong but insists it will not be a walk in the park for him.

The 20-year-old was cleared by FIFA early this week to feature for the Black Stars after over a year of anxiety.

His clearance comes at a crucial time that the Black Stars are preparing to take on the rest of Africa at next year’s Nations Cup in January.

The Charlton Athletic midfielder could be drafted into the team but the Ghana FA spokesperson Ibrahim Sannie Daara insists he must work his sucks off to get a place  in the team.

“A very strong midfielder coming into a very competitive midfield for Ghana,” Daara told radio XYZ

“It’s not a walk in the park at all to be a midfielder and be a Ghanaian.

“Most of our best players are midfielders if not all. It will not be a stroll in the park for him."

The Black Stars have not won the continental title in 30-years and will need their best arsenals to end their long-wait for an African crown.

GFA should stop encouraging these youngsters to switch if they are not going to play them. Frimpong would have been far better playing for the English side than Ghana. If a player takes the initiative to switch then they are doing it at their own risk, we should only encourage those that play positions the BlackStars desperately needed to fill. GFA should have made this statement to him before he switched personally and not in the media when he began the process and not after.

Nana, Frimpong is too good to play for the U20. Besides he'll be 21 when the AYC kick start next yr, he might be playing in the Npower Championship but he is technically gifted than most of the DM we have in the B/S. He just have to prove his match fitness, for me if he's 100% fit and playing regularly for CA then A.A shouldn't hesitate to include him in the 23 man squad for the AFCON.

I think we should let him lead our u20s to victory on the AYC then take them hopefully to the u20 world cup just as Dede di, I think Wnger will allow him to go, as this broadens his experience and can only do him and the team good. If he proves he is above that level then he will be well equip to step into the BS midfield. This is a telented boy but he is very raw, lets not rush him into stardom just yet, let him work to get there jsut like dede, essien, muntari, john mensahs etc did with the youth teams. If he loves Ghana the way he says he does he will have no problems carrying the u20 team, he should love this and I think he will. Peace y'all
