Andre Ayew has thanked Swansea City’s fans after being named Premier League player of the month for August.

The summer signing beat off competition from Bafetimbi Gomis among others to land the gong.

And he said: “At Marseille it was different as I was at home and I was one of them because I grew up there and played for the junior team.

“Here it is different as I had to start afresh. In football, when you have succeeded somewhere the biggest fear is when you leave as you’re starting all over.

“Coming here was a big challenge, but I’m glad the fans are happy with me — that’s very important for me and I thank them for their support.”

Gomis, meantime, will attempt to write his name into the Swansea history books when he leads the line at Watford this weekend.

The Frenchman has become the first Swan since 1923 to score in the first four league games of a season. Another strike against Watford would make him the first ever Swansea player to net in five.
