Coach Akwasi Appiah believes the whole world is in for a huge surprise when he leads the Black Stars to World Cup glory in Brazil.

Ghana is making only its third appearance at the finals following progressive stints since their debut participation in 2006.

The Black Stars face a strong challenge right from the onset having been drawn in a tough group alongside Germany, Portugal and USA.

But coach Akwasi Appiah remains confident he could actually lead the side to an unprecedented World Cup success having been armed with an array of players who match up to the best all over the world.

“I believe we have some of the best players in the whole world and I have so much confidence in their abilities,” he told Metro FM.

“And that is why I keep saying that this World Cup will spring a lot of surprises.

“There is nothing that stops us from going all the way to win the cup.

“But the most important thing is that we psyche our players up and ensure that they perform to their maximum potential.”

Ghana begin the World Cup campaign on June 16 against the USA in Natal before facing three time winners Germany four days later in Forlaleza.

The Black Stars will then finish up its group campaign against Portugal in Brasilia on June 24.

Ghana came mighty close to a semi final qualification in the last World Cup in South Africa.

That missed achievement would have made the Black Stars the first African side to have progressed that far in the history of the World Cup finals.

Yes we can!!! Just have to pick the right players. Those who make their performance in their various clubs do the talking but not those who hide behind propaganda of their agents by waiting to be called before they can prove their worth. Meanwhile, you see them warming benches at their various clubs week in and out. Just have to shine your eyes because if they know how to play we also know how to watch and criticize constructively. In fact, our eyes are wide open!!!

Winning the World Cup?, yes we can but it takes serious preparation and team effort to achieve this feat. But let's not brag too much and go to the tournament as underdogs but very mentally psyched, travelling plans well coordinated and accommodation well secured. In order to avoid any potential set backs, that may demoralize our players. It's all about preparation not bragging and we must not leave any potential threat unchecked. Our half hazard preparations must cease and our GFA must make all resources available on time to aid our players be comfortable in Brazil. Discipline should be taught to our stubborn players and I will not single anyone out but all the players must have in mind a to do task that must be accomplish without any complain nor confrontation. Teams like Germany and other countries know, they cannot play good soccer with us and they will adopt other tactics to upset our players to commit unnecessary fouls and potential red cards. Our players should be matured enough to desist from such tactics of defeating our selves.

Akwasi Appiah needs to calm down and show some humility...maybe he's getting too excited

who told you germany and "other countries" can't play good soccer against ghana? I like your enthusiasm but don't be stupid. The fact is any team can play good football on their day

Why should he calm down, he is the coach, if he is not excited how can he motivate the players,do you know what other coaches are saying to their countries and players.Even if we are not going to win the World Cup there no reason to seat there and be scared, its soccer, motivation and determination is what works.

We should be able to secure qualification before the last match with Portugal. Otherwise the US and Germany will play a fixed match to push us out. The Germans have done it before, against Algeria in 1982. They connived with Austria, played a fixed game to denied them an African first world cup qualification.

Yes, if winning the World Cup means getting out of the group stage. No, if he actually means 'winning the World Cup'.

sorry for coming off offensive but seriously on a friendly note please analyze that sentence "Teams like Germany and other countries know, they cannot play good soccer with us and they will adopt other tactics...." it sounds kind of naive like a villager who lacks good football knowledge

maybe he's skipping a few steps? lol just maybe? when you lose against egypt, mali, china, japan and you think you can be the best among brazil germany portugal its a bit silly not saying he cant do it but has some work to do and should keep quiet until his record improves. Anyway that's my view

Any need to argue with an illiterate who cannot begin a sentence without insults? revisit history and check how Germany defeated Ghana 6-1 in Germany. They had created a confusion at our camp. Revisit other high profile games and see how our players easily get knock out with red cards or subsequent yellow cards to dent our chances. Factually, I disengage illiterates and please do not respond and I would see you as half human to respond to this, take care.

It saddens me to see our own people belittle ourselves because our coach one of us. Much emphasis have been put on just coming out of a tough group and has actually singled out the Germans, superior to all other teams and especially us. Just because our coach is simply black and African. But be ware, our boys fear no team and they can go all out to win the World Cup. Never in our wildest dream should we underestimate our boys potential. Said earlier and putting up resources to make our boys feel better and psychologically superior. No country can stop our boys, when they re at their best. Honestly, the Germans themselves are scared and fact that they are playing mental toughness game does not mean we cannot beat them. Ghana can truly win the cup and no offense meant but we have to believe in ourselves first. No team nor player is superior to ours. A reason we play the World Cup, else what should be the point and not automatically award the Germans 9 points to progress. Unfortunately other Europeans are die hard Black star supporters. But we see no value in our own achievements.
