Ghanaian-born ex-England Under-17 striker John Cofie has vowed to prove himself at Conference League side Wrexham to earn a contract.

The 22-year-old former Manchester United youth striker joined the Dragons on non-contract basis last week.

He has vowed to work hard to earn a contract in January after joining the fifth-tier side.

“I am focused on playing my football, and getting the best out of myself,” he said

“When it comes to the contract part of it, the hard work will be proof of that, so I am basically focusing on working hard, grafting and playing football, that is the main bit for me.

“Yeah of course most definitely (I want to repay the faith), when I get my opportunity I am going to grab it hard and going to keep working hard day in day out and come Saturday if I get my opportunity I am going to take it.

He added: “I came in and it has been a while since I have been involved in football and the gaffer has been kind enough to give me the opportunity and we have come to an agreement and I am really happy to have signed what I have signed and hopefully we can take it from there.

“It is always good to hear positive stuff from the gaffer, no matter what, but I need to keep my head down and get my sharpness back and get my fitness up and keep playing the way I know I can play.

“No matter where, no matter when I am playing, I always to myself think I have got something to prove, to prove to the players I am playing with, to the gaffer, to myself, I have got something to prove. At the end of the day the best thing I can do for myself is work hard for the team and keep grafting for the team day in and day out and come Saturday do the best I can do.”

Cofie previously played for Royal Antwerp, Sheffield United, Notts County Crawley Town and Norwegian side Molde.
