Talented Ghanaian defender Gideon Mensah starred as Red Bull Salzburg saw off Atlético Madrid to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday.

The talented youngster played full throttle and impressed heavily as the Austrian giants sealed qualification to the last four at home.

Mensah, who plays for feeder club Liefering, featured for his parent club as the Under-19's recorded the crucial win.

Gideon BullDefender Igor Dos Santos De Paulo headed home the opener before Hannes Wolf increased the tally at the Bulls Arena.

Giovanni Novarro pulled a goal back to set up a tensed finish but the home side held on to qualify into the semi-finals.

It's been a roller-coaster performance for the Ghanaian who has been in an exhilarating form since he joined the side from local side WAFA.

His versatility has endeared him to the club fans as FC Salzburg's U19s have broken the dominance of the top European clubs.

The Young Bulls dumped two clubs from glamourous leagues out already - Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain - to earn plenty of respect around Europe in the process.

The Austrian side will play Barcelona or Porto in Nyon on 21 April
