Veteran Ghanaian coach JE Sarpong has subtly backed Jose Mourinho’s decision to bench Abdul Baba Rahman, claiming the 'hasty' move of the youngster to Chelsea could spell doom for his fine career.

The 21-year-old has endured a frustrating start to life at the English champions since joining from German side Augsburg two months ago.

The Ghana international is set for further troubles in the dug-out after the club’s board gave the Portuguese their  â€œfull support’ despite their jerky start to the new season.

Mourinho has constantly claimed the former Asante Kotok left-back is not ready for the Premier League despite impressing in his first two games for the club.

There are widespread fears Rahman could be made to rot on the bench as Mourinho refuses to ‘experiment’ with the relative young Ghanaian defender.

He has kept faith with out-of-form Branislav Ivanovic while doggedly using Azpilicueta in his unusual position of left-back, to cast further doubt on the future of the exciting natural left-back.

But Ebusua Dwarfs trainer JE Sarpong insists the Black Star 'hasty' move to Chelsea has accounted for the current scenario, insisting no coach will ‘experiment’ with a young talent during its struggles.

“It’s a worrying situation for everybody but you don’t expect any coach in the world to experiment with emerging talents when the team is struggling,” he told Accra-based Kasapa FM

“I think Baba’s move to Chelsea was done in a haste. They should have allowed him to stay at Augsburg for at least another season to mature.

“But they rush and that in my view is accounting for the current situation. If a player who plays in the Bundelisga is deemed not ready for the Premier League, then you can imagine the psyche of the coach.

“It doesn’t appear to me he will use him. In any case no coach will disband his experienced players for new ones when times are tough. It’s not practical.”

Rahan joined Chelsea from Augsburg in August for £21.7million but it appears the huge figure will not guarantee him first team football.

A new coach at the club could have changed the fortunes of Rahman but it looks like that prospect is remote.

Mourinho’s side were beaten 3-1 by Southampton on Saturday, leaving them lagging in 16th place after the opening eight games of the season, and Mourinho’s job has since been called into question.
