Marseille release crocked Andre Ayew for 2013 AFCON

Andre Ayew expected to join Ghana camp by Saturday evening

By Ameenu Shardow

Olympique Marseille have released Andre Ayew to join the Ghana national team for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 23-year-old picked up a hamstring injury on Wednesday and is expected to be out for an initial five days.

The French club had made a request to the Ghana FA to hold on to the midfielder as they begin treatment of the injury.

Their request was however rejected by the GFA who insisted on having the player in the Black Stars camp by Saturday’s deadline.

As a result, Marseille on Friday gave permission to Ayew to join the rest of his national teammates in Abu Dhabi.

It is however unclear at this point whether the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele has set off for the Black Stars camp in the UAE.

Ayew is expected to continue with his treatment while in the UAE and would hopefully join full scale training if his recovery keeps to schedule.

The news comes as a massive boost to Ghana who have already lost Yahaya Mohammed to injury days towards the start of the Nations Cup in South Africa.

  5. Robeen says:

Please, let’s just pray for him. He is one of our experienced players – having played three AFCONS, his absence will be a huge blow to Ghana. His inclusion will motivate the guys to play better. His assists are marvelous to watch. Remember Badu’s nominated goal? where from the assist?

  6. Coconutman says:

Wise decision by the Ghana FA and Coach Appiah to include Dede. He will have plenty of time to recover from a hamstring injury before the first AFCON group game. Dede is a leader, a fearless and skilled player, a passionate Black Star and deserves to be on the team.

Sometimes a star has to rise higher than their family, case in point Joseph in the bible, Michael Jackson from the Jackson five etc. It is time for Dede to break from his brother Jordan, they are both professionals but never a package deal.

  7. No,no,dede would not end his football but with God,he will shine more and be the best player in the world.

  8. Rasa says:

As it stands now. Dede is our only hope for the FIFA ballon d’or in future. He is the only player with good age and ambition to send us that far. Atsu and KASA are good but lack the ambition of C Ronaldo and Messi. Dede has it.

  9. kimco says:

what a bunch of ass lickers.
