Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler says Edwin Gyimah's versatility is an asset for the Sea Robbers.
Gyimah made his Bucs debut at centre-back in a 1-1 draw against his former side Mpumalanga Black Aces this past Friday.
And although the Ghanaian, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, made an error leading up to Collins Mbesuma's goal, Tinkler was encouraged by his display at Orlando Stadium.
ââ¬ÅHe is versatile. I remember him when I was still at Wits back in 2008 if I'm not mistaken, he came there and already then we saw his qualities,â⬠Tinkler says of the ex-SuperSport United man.
ââ¬ÅHe is a defensive midfielder that's what has been his role. Here in South Africa, clubs have been using him at central defence as well.
ââ¬ÅIn conversations with the coaches from his previous clubs, they have stated that he is versatile and plays in both positions, which is ideal for us.ââ¬
Pirates next visit Polokwane City on Wednesday, with Mpho Makola doubtful for the clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium due to illness.
The Buccaneers will host Egyptian giants Al-Ahly in the first leg of their Confederation Cup semi-final in Soweto on Saturday.
