Russia 2018 Asian Qualifiers: Iraq v Australia preview

Published on: 22 March 2017

Tehran: Iraq will take on third-placed Australia looking to close the gap on their opponents to just three points and reignite their 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Asian Qualifiers campaign.

After suffering three successive defeats, Mohanad Abdulraheem scored all four as Iraq defeated Thailand 4-0 to gain their first points in Group B, but a 2-0 loss to the UAE on Matchday Five left their prospects of a top-three finish in jeopardy.

Australia, meanwhile, are the only unbeaten team in the group but will be desperate to end a run of three successive draws which has seen them fall out of the top two positions that guarantee World Cup qualification.
