U20 World Cup: Austria suffer major blow as key striker Thomas Gösweiner ruled out of Ghana clash

Austria has been dealt a major blow ahead of their opening U20 World Cup match against Ghana on Saturday a late influential forward Thomas Gösweiner has been ruled out of the tournament in New Zealand because of injury.

The 20-year-old Admira Wacker Molding attacker will not participate in their opener against Ghana and the entire 2015 Fifa U-20 World Cup in New Zealand due to thigh problems.

Head coach Andreas Heraf, ahead of their World Cup opener against the Black Satellites on Saturday morning, has been forced to make a late addition and has nominated midfielder Lukas Grgic to complete his 21-man squad.

Grgic, 19, who plays for local side LASK Linz is expected to arrive in Wellington from Austria by match day and may not be available to feature against Ghana on Saturday.

Austria plays Ghana in a Group B opener at 05:00 CAT (07:00 GMT).
