Andre Ayew believes the future is bright for Swansea City as the new campaign approaches.

The Ghanaian winger scored his first goal for the Swans since his arrival from Marseille this summer as Garry Monk’s side were held 1-1 by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The Swans had drawn 1-1 with fellow Championship outfit Reading on Friday night, which followed on from a successful tour in Germany which conjured a draw with Borussia Monchengladbach and victory against 1860 Munich,

And after settling into his new surroundings, Ayew believes the Swans have plenty to look forward to this season following their latest friendly.

“Pre-season is about getting into shape, and we are progressing well. We have worked hard technically, tactically and physically,” said Ayew.

“We are getting this together and working on sharpness, but I feel we will be where we want to be pretty soon.

“We had a lot of possession and we should have won against Nottingham Forest, but we showed a lot of quality and it looks good for the future.

“We know we need to be ready for August 8, but we’re making progress.”

Ayew opened the scoring at the City Ground, flicking on Kyle Naughton’s pass before cutting inside and firing low past former Swans keeper Dorus de Vries from eight yards out.

Forest equalised nine minutes later through Robert Tesche, but Ayew was delighted to get his first goal for the club.

“It’s quite important to get my confidence quickly, and the guys have really helped me to settle in,” added the winger.

“Kyle made a good pass to me – I had a few like that in the game – and I had to battle with the defender before cutting in past the other so that I could score.

“I’m happy to score, but when you get goals it’s thanks to the players around you.

“Hopefully I can get plenty of goals for the team this season, but the most important thing is that the team wins. We will work as a team and support each other to do that.”
